HARC helps people with intellectual disability and their families enjoy lives of quality, inclusion and dignity by providing support, education, and advocacy.
HARC was founded in 1951 by a small group of parents whose mission was to address the challenges of intellectual disability. Years ago, when a child was identified as having intellectual disability, he or she was almost always referred to an institution. There were few, if any, programs or services available to help the child living at home.

HARC Giving Opportunities
Annual Fund/Membership Campaign The Annual Fund/Membership Campaign is the way in which all of HARC's family members and friends can help keep the organization vibrant. This yearly appeal to our friends and family members raises funds that are immediately used to support the programs and services that HARC offers to individuals with intellectual disability and their family... such as family support programs, recreation, respite, and the behavioral health clinic to name a few. Giving annually allows HARC to address needs as they arise and seize unexpected opportunities. Again, this is about participation and expressing support for HARC, not about giving large gifts.
Consider turning your an annual gift into a monthly gift. You will provide HARC with consistent funding throughout the year and by turning it into a manageable monthly payment you can even increase your overall total gift amount.
Memorial or Honorary Gifts Memorial and honorary gifts can be made at any time. HARC has reintroduced the Commemorative Brick Program. Your gift through this program will help HARC raise funds for the many services and programs we offer to individuals with intellectual and related challenges and their families. You can see your name, or the name of a loved one, business or club engraved in stone as a permanent reminder of your support of HARC. The bricks are installed for all to admire at HARC's main entryway. The ideas are endless! Graduations, marriages, birthdays, dedications, anniversaries, the list is endless. Bricks are $250 each, including inscription and handling. Bricks ordered now will be installed in Fall of 2008. Orders must be received by July 31, 2008.
Employer Matching Gifts Make your gift go a long way - if you had the opportunity to double or even triple your initial gift - making it go even further - wouldn't you be interested? With an employee- employer matching gift program, you can do just that. Please contact your Human Resources Department and find out if your company has a matching gift program.
Gift Planning
HARC's planned giving programs are an important part of our long-term stability. It's an opportunity to provide significant support to HARC's work on behalf of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. Most importantly, you will know that you will be supporting an organization you care about...for generations to come.
HARC Endowment The HARC Endowment was established in 1989. The endowment fund is a vehicle for sustaining programs for adults and children, family support services and advocacy on behalf of individuals with intellectual disability and their families...well past our lifetimes. And, a way to make certain that HARC and the important work we do continues for those who depend on us today and for those who will depend on us in the future generations.
Named Family Fund HARC now offers families the opportunity to establish a named family fund with a contribution of $5,000 or more. Named family funds can be unrestricted or donor designated. If you are interested in establishing a named family fund, please contact HARC's Business Office at 218-6011 for the appropriate forms.
Stocks and Mutual Funds Please consider a donation of stock or mutual funds to HARC. There are many advantages to donating stock or mutual funds, such as avoiding paying capital gains taxes when you donate appreciated securities, and receiving a charitable income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities if they are held longer than one year. Stock transfers can be made by electronically by transferring the shares from your account directly to HARC's brokerage account. Prior to transferring the stock, please have your financial advisor contact the Development Director at 860-218-6048 .
BequestAnother method of planned giving is a bequest. This can be a simple provision in your will naming HARC as the beneficiary. It can state the following:
"I bequeath the sum of ___________dollars ($_______) to HARC, Inc. for its general charitable purposes." or "I devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to HARC, Inc. for its general charitable purposes."
