Behavioral Health Clinic
The HARC Behavioral Health Clinic is a licensed outpatient psychiatric service whose mission is to serve the mental health needs of people with developmental disabilities. The Clinic is located at our Hartford headquarters at 900 Asylum Avenue. Services may be obtained by calling us directly, or by referral from a physician, community support agency, or the Department of Mental Retardation. We offer the following: AssessmentWhen a referral is made to the clinic, the first step is to gather the information that will guide treatment. Assessment interviews, questionnaires and/or tests may be utilized for this purpose. Once the assessment is completed, this information is shared with appropriate members of the support system to develop a treatment plan. We take a collaborative approach that includes the client, the family and caregivers in such a manner as to enhance the likelihood of positive outcomes. It is our belief that clients should exercise the greatest degree of choice possible in establishing goals and strategies for treatment. Therapeutic ServicesThe results of the assessment will help to determine what form or
combination of therapy will be most effective. We conduct a variety of problem-focused groups such as
sibling and family
issues, sexuality, assertiveness training, dating and relationships, and bereavement.
Medication ConsultationOur Medical Director, Carol Starr, MD, provides clinical services that may include medication to treat psychiatric illness. Training and ConsultationThe clinicians of the HARC Behavioral Health Clinic are available to provide in-service training to families and other caregivers. Consultations focus on specific individuals or are broader in nature, improving the overall behavioral health of a community residence, day program, or family system. We encourage a team approach to diagnosis and treatment. For more information on HARC's Behavioral Health Clinic contact:
