Volunteer & Internship Opportunities
Volunteers are the lifeline of HARC. Our Board of Directors and Board Committees represent the voluntary leadership of HARC; volunteers are active in all areas of our organization. Teen and adult volunteers are welcome, as are school and community groups. Student internships and opportunities to fulfill community service requirements are also available. Whether you have a few hours a week, one day per month, or would like to help for one project at a time… we have a job for you!
Provide administrative support through organizing, filing, data entry into a computer to help simplify and expand HARC's fundraising initiatives.
Family Support Services
Assist in organizing, scheduling and planning family support groups and activities.
Help maintain and strengthen HARC's relationships with programs and activities around the Greater Hartford area and work to find new ways to connect with the community. Ex: monitoring Best Buddies program which links local college students with HARC clients or visit schools with the Kids on the Block puppet show which portrays various disabilities.
HARC offers an array of recreation programs throughout the year for children and adults alike. Unified sports teams are made up of disabled and typical peers who practice together and then compete with other teams locally. This is similar to the Special Olympics national unified sports program.
Assist HARC's social services team in a variety of ways to help families find the resources they need.
Help HARC's advocates and assist them in making system wide changes through government action. Ex: testify at a public hearing or help setup meetings with local legislators.
Assist in task building on a one-to-one basis in addition to conducting reading or cooking programs.
Help the residential team in a variety of administrative ways or provide entertainment and activity inside the group homes. Ex: bring a guitar and spend an afternoon singing for and with group home residents.
Work to help design and distribute HARC newsletters, pamphlets and flyers.
HARC always has a number of projects that need to be done: special events, clerical, data entry, computer programming, mailings, remodeling and painting, landscaping, repairs, cooking and reading programs.
We provide internships and student teacher opportunities in a varity of disciplines.
